Workout of the Day: 16-Aug-2012

The American Diet – TEDx Harvard – Stephen Guyenet
The United States has experienced a major health transition in the last 150 years, which has included an increase in the prevalence of obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. As these conditions are heavily influenced by food choices, it is important to understand how the American diet has changed over this time period. This talk will describe qualitative and quantitative changes in American food habits that may be relevant to modern disease patterns.

Great WOD! HBBS went well at 100#

Option B was intense! 21:23 using a red band on the ring dips. First couple sets of pull-ups were unbroken, as were all the ring dips and burpees.

The American diet TED talk is a must watch video. You’ll learn scary terms like “diet industrialization” and “engineered food” and see how they and the astounding increase in sugar consumption impacts our health.
And the Beatty’s are one good looking family with one very happy little boy.

Thanks for the Ted talk link. The stat regarding sugar intake was astounding and motivates me to cut down even more.

Was all set to do some pull-ups and dips until Coach Josh goaded me into doing some muscle-ups. (Why am I so easily persuaded?!?)

Missed the fifth muscle-up in the first round and knew I didn’t have 5 rounds of 7 MU’s in me. Scaled it back to 5 MU’s each round.

    Ryan 22:08 scaled.

My chest was still crushed from yesterdays WOD but I still managed to get through “Ryan” in 22:07 RX. First time ever doing that many muscle ups. Also had the opportunity to coach from 4:30-8:30 and saw a lot of great work even through the burpee madness. Great job CFP!!!

185 on HBBS – 20:28 on WOD Rx – very happy with time – all the hard work and training and support from CFP made it possible – RIP Ryan

ended up scaling Ryan later on to 2 c2b pullups and 2 ring dips per MU…after doing 2 full rounds and 3 more muscle ups my shoulders were officially crushed. However, 17 muscle ups is the most I’ve ever done in a WOD so I think I’m improving! Congrats Rob and Nate who Rxd and crushed the WOD at 4:30.
