Event Report – Metro Dash Boston

by CFP coach James “Gym” Needham

Congratulations to everyone that “competed”  in the Metro Dash!

I say “competed” because I feel it was not much of a challenge for the team. The hardest part of the day was probably making the trip, and waiting for the event to start. I think some of the Team even went back to the box and completed the WOD “Filthy Fifty”! Congratulations are in order however, because the 11 that did the race are now members of the CrossFit Providence Race Team and will be receiving their official Race team Red shirt. The following is a breakdown of some of the Metro Dash results:

Athlete Time
Rob Aronofsky 7:20
Peter Salmons 8:21
Bryan Alejandro 8:24
James Needham 8:52
Snow Powers 9:12
Samuel Connelly 9:40
Cade Kittrell 9:56
Kelly Carse 10:51
Joe Moscariello 12:35
Doug Chabot 12:58
Joanna Drinane 13:54

Considering the fastest times were 6:40 & 9:00 and the slowest times were 27:52 & 30:37 for the men and women respectfully; I would say we did quite well.

Rob Aronofsky Snow Powers

Special recognitions are in order for Rob Aronofsky who, with his time of 7:20 finished 3rd in his age group and 5th overall in the Open Men’s category.  Also Snow Powers who with her time of 9:12 finished 2nd place in the Open Women’s category.

The next qualifying Race Team event has been changed and will not be the Mew’s 5K road race on November 20th. This event is still going to be a blast and everyone is encouraged to participate. I will be there along with a whole host of individuals form CrossFit Providence, but after considering the character of the Race Team, wanting it to involve more of a challenge; so, the Mew’s 5K has been removed as a qualifying event. A 5K road race can be walked and completed without much consideration or preparation. I want the events that give people a Red shirt to be one entered into with a little trepidation and excitement. The Metro Dash turned out to be not that hard but all the participants did not know that going in and were ready to take on whatever challenges awaited them.

Here is a list of the upcoming events that I have chosen to be official CrossFit Providence Race Team events. If you would like to see something added let me know (James@CrossFitProvidence.com) and I will take a look.

Tough Mudder New England – Mount Snow Vermont

Then continue through the steps. The price right now totals at $110 and the site only takes MC, Visa, or Discover Card so make sure you have one of those available before you proceed. The price will go up on November 5th and will be going up in increments of $10 topping out at $180! So sign up sooner than later and save some money.

Other events on the calendar are:

Spartan Sprint (3+ Miles) in Massachusetts.

When: August 11th 2012 Start time of 10:00 a.m.
Registration is between $60-$100 based on when you register

Spartan Beast (10+ Miles) in Vermont

When: September 22nd 2012 Start time of 10:00 a.m.

Registration is between $110-$205 based on when you register

The sooner you commit and sign up the cheaper it will be. Also the sooner you commit the sooner you can get started focusing on your training. There is nothing like one of these races to motivate you to train harder and stay more focused on your recovery efforts.

Doug Chabot, Snow Powers, Pete Salmons, and I have already registered for the Spartan Beast race on September 22nd 2012. This WILL BE a very difficult race and one not to be taken lightly. That is why the Tough Mudder, and a Spartan Sprint race are on the schedule a month prior, so the team will slowly get ready to complete the Beast. The first thing you need to do however is, sign up before it is too late. These events will sell out!

I would also like to mention that Cathy from the 5:45 class was also there as a volunteer. Seeing her helping out, made the event seem as though we were at CFP and gave us a home feild advantage. Thanks!
